The immigrants
immigrants coming to Elise Island first had the reality of leaving their homeland for something they thought was better. from the photos a good number of immigrants seemed to take a sigh of relief that their journey was finally over. For some it was a time of celebration for reaching what called the land of plenty, with roads paved of gold. However this celebration was because of the journey they endured, a majority of immigrants traveled in what is called steerage which is the most crowed area on ship usually located near the bottom of the ship. where the immigrants would stay with little air to breath in a very claustrophobic area where they would stay for weeks traveling the Atlantic ocean. upon arrival they would see the mighty statue of liberty greeting them on the way into the harbor and soon their trip will finally be over, the sight would inspire the immigrants and stir them into excitement, Once they arrive they would be filled with excitement for arriving in the great United states the land of plenty, where they would be greeted with open arms.
